Protecting Critical Infrastructure: Recognizing and Responding to Security Threats
Those working in and around utility infrastructure can play an important role in identifying potential security threats. This session will explore what to look for, when something should be reported and how utilities respond when concerns arise.
Through real-world examples and expert insights, safety and security experts from BGE and PHI will discuss physical threats to critical infrastructure, warning signs to recognize, the role of law enforcement and information sharing and how field personnel can serve as an important first line of defense. Attendees will leave with practical guidance for strengthening situational awareness and responding when something doesn’t seem right.

CGA Best Practices begin with a real-world industry challenge and evolve through stakeholder collaboration into solutions designed to strengthen damage prevention nationwide. Attendees will get a closer look at how the Best Practices process works, from identifying an issue and submitting a proposed practice to task team review, stakeholder input, consensus and final approval. The session will also examine how industry data, emerging challenges and lessons from the field help drive the development of new practices and updates to existing ones. Presenters will highlight several issues currently under consideration and explain how industry professionals can contribute their own experience, ideas and perspectives to help shape future Best Practices.
